Cameras / drinking

  • AnLand by AnLand moderator

    Dear science team,

    I have to unrelated questions:

    1. What do the cameras look like, i.e. what are the animals seeing (when they see it)? One sees sometime that somebody wrapping them in plastics. But how big are they? Maybe you have a picture somewhere?
    2. After more than 2000 video sequences, I did not see a single animal drinking. They are eating all the time, but no drinking at the small river bed, that we see constantly in cool silence-5. Why?
      Thanks, Anja.

    Hi Anja

We use Bushnell TrailCams http://www.bushnell.com/hunting/trail-cameras which are covered in cling film and then placed in plastic tuperwear boxes at the really wet sites (as some of the dry sites we leave the cameras as is seen in the picture). At sites with elephants we cover the boxes in elephant dung since then elephants react to the cameras less then.

It is probably just an effect of where the cameras are placed, the animals definitely have some places they prefer to drink.
