Display & drumming?

  • AnLand by AnLand moderator

Would this already count as display, initiated by panthoots, and brief drumming? We've seen a lot chimps climbing up and down here and that loud clapping (drumming) seems to be intentional. What do you think?

Hi! Although very forceful this would not count as a display nor is it drumming. The chimp could be charging someone in the trees, the vocalizations suggest this to me, but since we cannot see the rest we cannot be sure how this plays out.

Here a very similar situation ACP000ccih that I am not sure about - display are not? This time by a male (Nuka, probably).

In ACP000ccih the male is piloerect, bipedal and definitely engaged in a display. He might possibly be charging someone altho we cannot see that clearly. For that clip for sure it is a male display. Hope that helps!
