Duiker species

  • zoogirl1 by zoogirl1

I have recently acquired a field guide to African mammals. Sometimes too much information is not a good thing. I am concerned that what I/we have been calling a Brooke's Duiker is really an Ogilby's Duiker. The shape of the back for a Brooke's is very flat and straight. The Ogilby's has that arched or rounded back like many others and that is what I think I see with most of the duikers I may have called Brooke's. I haven't collected those to check.

I will try to find the discussion again, but the general statement by the experts has been that on the sites in West Africa there are no Ogilby's Duikers. It's not within there distribution that's why they are all Brooke's duikers.

EDIT: here the discussion: https://talk.chimpandsee.org/#/boards/BCP0000003/discussions/DCP0000871 It's a long one! So, yes, apparently we expect Ogilby's Duikers only at "Shy Waterfall".
