Links for Identification and Further Reading

by ksigler moderator
I thought it might be helpful to start a list of good reference material to use when identifying animals, or to learn more about wildlife conservation in Africa, in general. There is no requirement to identify everything we see, but for those who enjoy it and want to contribute to the research data, please feel free to share any reliable resources you know of that might help others.
These are some of my personal bookmarks. No endorsement implied. These are just sites that I've come across (or heard about from some of you) that I've found informative. Any others?

Super awesome! I think the only other site I sometimes use is www.iucnredlist.org -- which actually isn't working for me right now 😕

Oh yeah, I forgot about http://www.iucnredlist.org/! Not working for me, either, at the moment. But that's great for info on any animal, and usually has detailed distribution maps. Also, http://www.arkive.org/.

I also use this album from another project (Wildcam Gorongosa project):

Wow - That's a great link and a great tool! His other images are also superb.
From David Bygott profile: "British zoologist/naturalist, spent half my life in Tanzania, successively doing: field research on chimps & lions, university lecturing, writing/illustrating/publishing, safari guiding, currently with National Geographic Expeditions."
Cool chimp & other images in this album taken in July of this year.

Thanks to @tweger -- a photo guide to West African plants, in case anyone is curious about the trees, fruits, and other flora seen in the clips: http://www.westafricanplants.senckenberg.de/root/index.php Other regions of Africa are linked there, as well.

I may consolidate these eventually... For now, here's a new book I just found with great photos for comparing duikers & other antelopes.
