Chimps "resting"

This is the first clip where I have seen a chimp apparently really "resting" - if that's what they are indeed doing? Do any scientists have experience seeing a chimp in such a position, lying on the ground with its arm extended holding onto a tree? Is he/she possibly holding the tree to be able to get up faster, for example in the case that a predator arrives?

Yes this is resting and we see them quite often doing this in the wild. I am not sure if the holding serves a purpose, you often see them with a leg up, resting in the same way we often do, for comfort. Will get others to answer too. 😃
