tool usage?

  • bannd67 by bannd67

Since this seems to be a "built" bridge, would this be considered tool usage? I admire how adaptable these chimps are.

Oh, definitely human built, as some where there is the vid of two guys building it. I was commenting on the fact that the chimps are so good at adapting to new strategies, such as this bridge, whereas other animals might shy away from it. Perhaps the proper term would be opportunistic.

ah, I understand! Sorry for misunderstanding your point. Yes, Im too think, this is really exciting to watch how the chimps are reacting of this new "thing" ec way. But, as they do not knew, that this is human made, isnt it that they take and handle what they get? Perhaps if a tree were fallen over the gap, with brunches to overgo, we wouldnt think of tool use at all, would we?

Hey, we had a bit of a discussion on what constitutes tool use here 😃 https://talk.chimpandsee.org/#/boards/BCP000000e/discussions/DCP000075o

Hi Mimi, thanks for the link. I tried to read the article of CH. Boesch, but sadly the link is dead ... do you perhaps have the title of the article so I can search for it?
