Strangely colored Jentink's duiker?

  • AnLand by AnLand moderator

I already saw him/her earlier. It is a quite big duiker with a strange coloring. Did not see it during daylight. What kind of duiker is it or is it cattle?

This is a Bongo, a kind of large antelope.

    It's not a Duiker at all, it's a #Bongo.

Bongos have larger bodies and horns than even Jentink's duikers, as well as distinctive stripes on their sides and patterns on their faces.

Ok, thanks. So I labeled it wrong three times, I think.

But, what should I use for annotation. Bongo is not a choice!

They're large ungulates, which is a big giant catch all for anything with hooves that doesn't fit into a more specific annotation.

In general, if you don't know what category to choose, look at the Field Guide. You can open each option to read which animals belong under each category. There are even some photo examples. You'll find bongo mentioned there 😃

Moreover, you'll find each type of behaviour explained there.

Check it out (the icon is on thleft side of the video on the classification page).

    Cheers,

    Zuzi

Thanks, I need to look frequently in the field guide (so I am aware of this), but in that case I missed the large ungulates altogether. Got another Bongo and annotated it. 😃
