Pushkin/DBMale01--Adult chimp, tool use (probably male)

I believe this adult chimp is a male. The shoulders are quite broad and he seems to be big. He seems to have discolored around the lips. Slightly rounded brows, no damage at the ears as far as I can tell. Face coloration quite even and slightly gray. The nose tip looks sometimes very pink and no real baldness is seen. Maybe a beginning central one. π

Thanks @AnLand,
He will be DBMale01 in the chimp list. Let's see if we find him again

I suggest that this is the same male. I see the same broad shoulders, but not much robustness. Rounded brows, big ears, no baldness. Left ear slightly triangular. My main argument would be the dark spot (scar?) on his right brow that is also seen in the videos above. ACP00083qt

Hello AnLand!
totally similar for me also. Same shape, same color, same nostrils...
What the rest think?I am going to add him as DBMale01b for now, I would like to wait for more people opinion.
Great AnLand!!!

Totally different lighting conditions but I see the right eyebrow nick in the same location on both chimps. The slanted nostrils and v-shape of the nose is alike. They have a somewhat wide flat head when viewed from the front making a wide expanse between the ears. The body shapes seem similar.

As it seems that we need more time to get that match proposal really accepted, I will make things a bit more complicated with adding this interesting male to the discussion. The video ACP00087hk was found by @Dana23 and shows a smaller build male with a very white muzzle, slightly rounded brows, a flat head. Big ears present and especially the right ear's structure fit.
OK, I was looking for it, but I see a differently colored mark on the right brow and under the right eye. The still are not best as he travels fast, but by stop-and-go you find a good face view at 1 sec.
The white muzzle looks quite extreme, I admit, but his muzzle looks strangely pigmented and the black-and-white mode might display this so extreme.
Just something to discuss.

Hm, that's interesting - today @tina_pixie_ found this video ACP0007obm with a great portrait of a younger male. This might be the one with the white muzzle. The brows are similar to DBMale01 and 01b, but maybe a bit more straight. The dark mark is not seen, but reflection of the brows matches the black-and-white footage.
In comparison to DBMale01 and 01b - the right ear seems to be more pointy and the nostrils different. The muzzle seems to be more triangular (or the pigmentation is triangular distributed, much more than in the - seemingly older - male above).
So, two different chimps here? DBMale01 and DBMale01b // ACP00087hk and ACP0007obm on the other hand? I am sure about the first two ones, but not about the new ones (anymore).

I was reluctant to the initial proposal because I can't see the features of DBMale01 clearly. I also had the impression that he is bigger and older than DBMale01b. But with the new additions the picture gets clearer I think.
The buddy with the white muzzle triggered something. I remembered my post Chimp with (flat?) right ear & white muzzle which i originally posted as "chimp with deformation in right ear and white muzzle". @ksigler persuaded me with stillshot 5 that there was not much of a deformation. But after looking at it once again I think he has a little something like a ripple on the top of his right ear. Maybe it shows only at a certain angle of the camera.
To compare the fast moving males better I did some screenshots and enlarged them a little.
From video ACP00087hk
He's got a little darker spot on the right brow like DBMale01b and he has definitely a little deformation on top of the right ear.
From video ACP0007obm
I can see the same dark spot in the brow and the same ripple in the brim of the ear (is that the correct expression?)
Now my third chimp from video ACP0007v94 I think has the same traits including the white muzzle.
stillshot from video

and some screenshots in between the stillshots:

But when you look at stillshot 5 from the same chimp there seems to be nothing wrong with the ear.

Although the quality is not good because of the movement I do believe that these three chimps are one and the same. They also all have a little bit lighter colored hair on the forehead more to the left. Does DBMale01b fit this pattern? I think he does. Looking forward to your opinions!

Hi all,
thanks for all your post!
I am going to add:
- ACP00087hk as DBMale02
- ACP0007obm as DBMale02b
as AnLand suggested. So we can talk about them easier.
@Boleyn, so you proposed that ACP0007v94 could be DBMale02, DBMale02b and DBMale01b, but not DBMale01, rigth?
I am going to add this chimp from ACP0007v94 as DBMale02c to talk about him also easier.
Thanks a lot!!

Hi AnLand,
I also think that DBMale01 and DBMale01b are the same, but I would like to hear @Boleyn 's opinion.

Thanks, @PauDG, don't take me wrong here, I didn't say they are no match I just said I cannot see DBMale01 clearly enough to compare him to DBMale01b. If you both are sure then I'm ok with it! π

ok, great! Thanks a lot for answer. Maybe you want to take a look again to the thread about DBMale02d ( http://talk.chimpandsee.org/#/boards/BCP000000p/discussions/DCP0000rm4 ) and tell us what do you think...? π
AnLand, which name do you want for this male? Thanks

It's always hard to say how unique ears are, but I think, this ACP0007h6m is a brief look at DBMale02 again. I base this mainly on the right ear, but others traits (apparent age, body build, brows, muzzle) fit.

I am thinking the left chimp might be DBMale02b and the right one might be DBMale02d: ACP0007u7c

ACP0007u7c The chimp on the right looks to have thinner hair on the neck and upper chest to me. He does have similar fluffy sideburns though. Not too much of back seen of DBMale02d in ACP0007koh but what is seen looks darker and more robust to me while the chimp on the right in ACP0007u7c has a slim gray back. Maybe we just don't see enough of the back to glimpse the start of gray back fur.
The muzzle and nose don't seem white enough to match the depigmentation in #DBMale02d.
Having said all of that - the lighting, angle, and limited portion of DBMale02d we see in ACP0007koh make comparisons more difficult in my opinion.

Hi AnLand,
I agree also, as Boleyn. They look very similar ACP0007h6m and DBMale02b.I am not sure about the males from ACP0007u7c.
I am going to open a new thread for DBMale02b, so we can talk about him and the proposed matches there. I will add the link.

The male foraging in these 4 clips ACP00083wt ACP00083wv ACP00083wx ACP00083x0 ACP00083wc ACP00083we ACP00083wh and ACP00083wk ought to be Pushkin as well.

It's the same series/same date/same place as the confirmed Pushkin-video ACP00083qt. I already added the Pushkin Tag to the previous video to this one ACP00083qr where it was missing. Hope that's ok.

Thanks Boleyn, it is perfect that you have tagged ACP00083qr. π
About the other videos ( ACP00083wt ACP00083wv ACP00083wx ACP00083x0 ACP00083wc ACP00083we ACP00083wh) do you think Pushkin is the one on the left? In ACP00083x0 the face looks lighter, don't you think?
Thanks!

Hi Paula
To answer the question first, no I think (or thought) Pushkin is the one on the right. The chimp on the left in ACP00083x0 in the background seems to be a juvenile.
The sequence starts with ACP00083wt with an adult in the middle of the frame moving to the right. After looking at this backview for several minutes now I'm not sure anymore. Could it be a female?
Pushkins backside from clip ACP00083qt looks very similar with the grayish hair and the pinkish area but he's clearly male π

Hi, I noted earlier in the video comment that I think the individual in ACP00083wt is a female. I still think that. I need to look into the other videos (I try very soon!), but I want to caution a bit here.
@Boleyn: the date that you see in the spreadsheet in column B is not an actual time stamp. It is the date when the camera was set up, combined with a minute counter. That means between the full minutes, e.g. 4_45 and 5_0 could be several minutes of a time gap, several hours or even days. You cannot conclude without the actual time stamp that the videos are continuous or even that it is the same day.
The actual time stamp would be in column K and you see that this is not completed as most videos at Dawn Bird do not have time stamp and the science team is working on providing these as @MimiA said last week.
I look into all the videos mentioned here soon, I promise.

Thanks, @AnLand, I wasn't aware of that and thought that videos with the same date are actually from the same day. But it explains a lot π oh and no hurry!
