Aggression among chimps

How do the male chimps establish their pecking order? We rarely ever see or hear aggression whch strikes me as odd. Any reason for this?

Although it's an important aspect of chimpanzee life, aggression as an event is relatively rare and short lived. While with the chimps we certainly see aggressive interactions daily if not even multiple times a day, however I believe at Fongoli it only accounts for a very small percentage of time spent in a day (something like 1%?). Catching rarer behaviors on camera traps (which only offer short windows into a chimp's life ) can be difficult!

Thanks Erin, would you mind to elaborate a bit more on the first part of my question? Let me ask it differently: Do they establish the order with other means than aggression?
