Hand signal?

  • Corcaroli by Corcaroli

It looks to me like the female standing on the log gives a hand sign to her infant to come up on the log. Does anyone else see this or am I imagining it?

    Hmmmm, I don´t know 😕

I think she has her mouth full, and then she spits some food on her right hand. So not a hand signal, but a "hand spit" 😄

Also, although the infant´s reaction is to get a bit closer to mom, the female stays the same, no fear reaction. If she was telling her infant to come closer to her, it would be because there is a possible threat and she would at least stand up in a vigilant way. But she looks quite relaxed instead...what do you think?

Thanks for the explanation Nuria! Actually I was quite sure I posted this question here before but it seems some gremlins made it disappear 😕

the gremlins took your question here: https://talk.chimpandsee.org/#/boards/BCP000000v/discussions/DCP00021vj 😃

I have edited my first answer...after watching the video again, I´m not that sure anymore that it´s a hand signal, but I will check it...sorry for my contradiction!!

    Hi everyone,
This is a nice mother-infant interaction. The mom is eating and I cannot see what she actually spits out but I would not interpret that specific movement and spitting into the hand as a signal to the infant. Actually what she does right before that action, lowering her arm towards the infant, is observed quite frequently by mothers where they provide support and a potential bridge (their arm) for the infant to climb/grasp onto. The infant is already at the log and appears to be struggling to get on top already at the beginning of the video. I hope this helps!

    Thanks!

so you think there is both actions, mother-infant interaction (arm bridge) and spiting out right after (no signal to the infant)?
