Forest Elephants Documentary

  • puddock by puddock

I saw a brilliant documentary on TV last night (recorded a few weeks ago) about forest elephants and the work of Andrea Turkalo. Has anyone else seen it? It was lovely to see so many elephants gathered together at the clearing at Dzanga in the Central African Republic after the occasional brief glimpse we get on the video clips here.

Can any of our professionals tell us if we are looking at elephants in this area?

And what an inspiration Andrea is! She's given twenty years of her life to understanding and protecting these beautiful animals - a brave and determined woman.

I don't think I've seen that particular show, but you're totally right that bais (clearings) give great views of the animals. In fact, a C&S collaborator, the Goualougo Triangle Ape Project, just posted a great video of gorillas in a bai: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuLR94bj9Vc.

C&S doesn't have any videos from CAR, you can learn more about the sites at the where we work page.

This is probably not what you are talking about but this is a great Andrea Turkalo interview done some years back 😃 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owXlAQ4-4o0

This was the show BBC - Forest Elephants: Rumble in the Jungle I don't know if people outside the UK can get it on the BBC IPlayer but if you're interested in forest elephants it's well worth a watch. Thanks @jwidness for the gorilla link and @MimiA for the video about Andrea - she's a remarkable woman!

    Thanks @puddock!

Another amazing woman who has dedicated her life to elephants is Cynthia Moss, unfortunately the best doc ive ever seen on her is behind a paywall, but here is a brief snippet of her from another video 😃 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIo9PqN4OZE
