Elefarts: Splashing sound?
-
by Snorticus
#Orohena asks an interesting question: #elephant what is this noise? It seems like awfully quick splashing to be made by the elephant's movements. Any ideas?

Hi @Snorticus and @Orohena. This is very interesting...I think you are going to like the answer, but IΒ΄m still not 100% sure. Let me just ask some more ele. freaks (like me π ), and I will come back to you guys very soon...

here I am...so, my suspicion is right π
we have our first ELEPHANT FART!! isnΒ΄t it great???
Right before the splashing sound you can hear like two "hits": these are feces falling on the ground. Then we hear the fart (sorry, I donΒ΄t know if there is any more polite word in English...wind?). At first I wasnΒ΄t sure because usually the ele. fart sound is not so "liquid" (sorry!), and the reason why it sounds this way in this video is because it is accompanied by poo π
Have I already said that I love these animals, in all their situations???

WOW ! I definitly didn't expected that ! Amazing ! (no idea if there was better word to choose in English to make it more "polite" but at least I understood it π )
Thank you @NuriaM !I still love it too. I mean, it's just nature... And this elephant probably didn't knew that there was a camera recording it ! Haha

OMG you have that collection! Please share π should we make a #toots tag? 3:) it would just be for fun but that's 1/2 of chimpandsee right?

It is a small collection so far: https://talk.chimpandsee.org/#/collections/CCPS000239 Headphones may be needed to properly hear all the toots and definitely we should make a #toots tag, Mimi.
Also, reviewing I find we have run across another elephant toot: ACP000bn0r
Let your inner kid out and enjoy π

Hey guys, I knew you were going to love this π
Thanks so much #Orohena for your great find!!
Here ACP000bn0r we have a really beautiful elephant fart: . He (I guess you all have been guessing itΒ΄s a he π ) is checking the camera with his hind right leg and then he dedicates a lovely fart to all of us.
In this one ACP000dy67 IΒ΄m not that sure. It goes indeed in the fart direction, but I find the sound too low if you compare it with the sound the ele. makes when walking. I have been thinking of a small animal a bit separated from the ele (maybe a frog? not sure at all!!) .
I love your #toots collection!!! π

Hey @Snorticus, some more from the Red Water review: ACP0002wbi, ACP0002wb8 (a bit), ACP0002wbq and ACP0002wbs
On twitter, it was a while ago mentioned that during the habituation process in order to find the chimps farts are one of the sounds indicating presence of chimps. It's a sound that nobody can hide.

And for everyone who thinks this is an interesting topic: there is an upcoming book Does it fart? by Dani Rabaiotti about all you need to know on animal flatulence. Dani's "other" research is about African wild dogs and climate change. You can follow her on twitter.

Oh those were quite good additions for my 'toots' collection, @AnLand I follow Dani Rabaiotti but somehow missed her book. Thanks for the heads up, that one is a must have!

Of all the conversations on this project, this one makes me the most uncomfortable so far. I feel embarrassed for the animals! :-\ lol But, I guess that's silly, since they don't seem to have the farting hang-up like humans do.
In case you wanted to juvenile this up a little more, here's the best emoticon I could come up with:
(_ Y _) π£
or, occasionally (_ Y _) π£ π©
