Vocalization, mom with 2 young ones

  • Snorticus by Snorticus

ACP000cz1n - @AnLand asks - "Does the older offspring try to nurse and is the vocalization directed against?" Can you help us @NuriaM

ACP000cz1o - "growling" mom, the baby lays in the grass

ACP000cz1p - mother stands over baby, then "growls" again

Interesting question but besides that the videos ACP000cz1o and ACP000cz1p are just too funny: I need to cut them together to see that young elephant wriggling through those two trees. 😮

hey guys, I am happy to be finally back to my routine 😃

so, I don´t think that the juvenile is trying to nurse, as he would come certainly closer to the breasts, would raise and roll his trunk and would open his mouth. And I don´t think that the female is rejecting him. If she was, she would do some movements with her hind legs to set him apart, or she would just go away.

They are just communicating; the group is keeping together. See for example in ACP000cz1o at sec. 09, you can hear another distant ele. vocalizing. Also, you can see more individuals coming from the background. I think these vocalizations mean "hey, are you all here? let´s keep together".

Note: very appropriate for this time (after Christmas) the juvenile trying hard to go through these two trees in ACP000cz1o / ACP000cz1p ...time for diets!! 😄
