Elephant with uneven tusk-length and offspring

    What about the elephants in ACP000dkhn and ACP000dg3e - she has an offspring with her, a trunk with a big opening (I think) and the left tusks is much bigger, while the right one forward oriented. (As always, just a guess and I don't know what more to compare.)

    ACP000dnk9 (on the right) is another one with that feature. But maybe it's not that special?

    After a long check, we agree that the females in ACP000dkhn and ACP000dg3e do look extremely alike! tusks are the same asymmetrical, the trunk wrinkles, tail and legs do look the same. My doubt were the infants. The infant in ACP000dkhn is younger (like one year younger or so) than the juvenile in ACP000dg3e. But I would say that the infant in ACP000dkhn belongs the the first female walking.

    and the female on the right in ACP000dnk9 that you mention is the same one too: apart from the obvious (tusks), look at her right ear. There are two small round cracks in all three cases.

    Asymmetrical tusks are quite common in elephants, but also in this particular case, the lenth, thickness and colour match too.

    Thank you so much for offering me the chance to name her @AnLand and @Nuria, I don’t know if you think this too morbid, but I was wondering about naming her Mary, in memory of poor Mary the elephant who was barbarically hung for killing her keeper after he’d beaten her with a bull hook (if you haven’t come across this, see http://allthatsinteresting.com/murderous-mary) The story has haunted me ever since I heard about it on a David Attenborough programme and I just thought it might be nice to honour her in this way. If you think it’s too sad just say and I’ll think of something else.

    Hi! Actually, we have already a chimp named Mary (at Dry Lake), so that would not work. Maybe with a different spelling (Mery or Mari)? But it cannot be a name that we've already used for another individual, independent from the species.

    Also, if you are thinking of the circus elephant and don´t want to change her name, I think she was also called BigMary...just an idea 😃

    But there´s no Mari chimp, so it´s fine too 😃

    Yes that's a great idea Nuria. BigMary it is then - unless anyone has any objections?(or unless you've already altered her name on various clips, in which case I'm happy for Mari to stand).
