I've noticed people experimenting with different smileys, so thought I'd ~~waste~~ donate an entire afternoon making a post about the different ones I knew of that would work. 😃

Obviously these are just a fun social feature, and there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Also, they should not be used as parts of tags, post titles, user names, or other places where the system depends on clean text to work properly.

That being said... Click or hover a smiley to see the keyboard strokes used to make it. I've made them larger here for illustrative purposes. To sparingly make them (or any text) larger in your own posts:

You can also use Unicode characters here. There are many thousands to choose from, but below are some examples. You can use them by copying and pasting, or by familiarizing yourself with how to generate Unicode characters manually. Basically, each symbol has a code that is typed as . For example, 🐵 turns into 🐵. Unicode can also be used on Facebook, Twitter, etc., but not all of them will work in all places.

Yes, I agree, and this post can go away if it begins to get in the way of useful communication. But, I think most people know when to be serious and when to play. 😐
