Chimp & See Talk

What is done with all of the non-chimp animal information collected?

  • housegnome by housegnome

Does this information get shared with other scientists working with other animal species? Or are your teams also studying these other animals to an extent? Just curious as I have seen waaaay more duiker than pretty much anything else, and hope the information is going to something useful.

    Thank you!

We absolutely will be sharing this data with other interested researchers!

I too have sighted only about three videos with chimps ,many ,duikers, whose colour is often hard to identify, was wondering if this is useful . Pleased to hear it is!

It definitely is. It's also helping to establish biodiversity in these locations, I believe!

That is correct DZM! We will be evaluating species diversity from each site, and hopefully can also calculate abundance estimate for each taxa. This will inform us about the "health" of the forest and possibly also hunting pressure at each location.

Can you really estimate abundance? We don't know, for instance, that it's not just the same gregarious duiker wandering in front of the camera over and over, right? 😃

Hi, have there been any reports or articles yet with the overal species diversity results of the already visited sites? It obviously would be very interesting to see which species have been found at the sites and how often. Or is there a way I can look up the previous sites on the website myself?

    Best regards,

    Maurice

Hi @maurice_tijm, its something we are certainly working on 😃 IF you were interested in a specific species, you could use the keyword collections to see what sites they were found at OR create your own custom collection using the site name you are interested in and the species you are in interested in! If you are a researcher looking to collaborate then please contact me by email at arandjel AT eva.mpg.de

Go here for the species list and the site names: https://talk.chimpandsee.org/#/boards/BCP0000007/discussions/DCP0000qsg

Go here for how to make your own collection: https://blog.zooniverse.org/2015/01/14/using-tag-groups-to-collect-images-on-talk/

    cheers!
