Identifiable chimps at Dry Lake

  • NuriaM by NuriaM scientist, moderator

    Hi everyone,

@Linda_Habanera and I have been checking the chimp video list of Dry Lake and we have come up with a list of videos containing chimps that we agreed that could be identifiable but haven been yet.

We would like to discuss with you about the possibility of those chimps being "new" or a match to any of the known or prospective chimps in the PROSPECTIVE / KNOWN CHIMPS list.

Below the list (73 videos in total); some are single 15 sec. videos, but we have some sequences too; you can see it from the sequence number beside the video code: an example of an entire sequence would be: 0015_0 / 0015_15 / 0015_30 / 0015_45.

Each video is accompanied by number of identifiable chimps (in brackets).

If you would like to put your 2 cents on any of the videos below, just open a new thread specifying the video code you want to discuss about and your guess. You can also add a link to any other old thread that might be relevant.

THANKS A MILLION FOR YOUR AMAZING HELP!!!!!!

In ACP0006v9u and ACP0006v9v - there is a some movement and in my opinion a bit of chimp behind the termite mound seen (right of the juvenile). It seems to be a very small individual and as we identified the female as Aisha, it should be her infant Ajali.

I tagged at the moment only #3_chimp and left everything open for discussion. (I can remove that as well if we decide that there is nobody.)

I think you're right @Anja, given the fact that Aisha is very protective with Ajali it's very unlikely that s/he should not be somewhere close. The movement can be seen in several videos so yes, I support that idea.

Other than that, the juvenile in these videos is most likely Shadow, Aisha's older offspring. Shadow is confirmed in the videos taken 8 minutes earlier at the same place ( ACP0006vao - ACP0006vbb ). I think, Aisha left Ajali there with Shadow while she went away and comes back in ACP0006v9u.

Yes, in general I agree with you - but there is a eight minute difference and apparently they decided to not make this assumptions. The female and her in infant in the first part are not confirmed as Aisha and Ajali, but Shadow is; and in the remaining sequence Aisha is confirmed, but not Shadow. The small infant just has been missed, I guess.

I also think, it's the same family over time and all traits fit, but I can also understand to be careful here because of the time gap.

As it was - unfortunately - ruled out that the second juvenile in ACP00072fg is Juv15 (Crispin), this juvenile needs a temp ID now.

    For this entry:

I am not sure whom you consider here identifiable. There are no new chimps and the other infant and the chimp barely seen in the back (probably the second infant's mom) are already in the videos before. The other identities are #DLFemale7 with #DL11Infant6, #DLJuv14 and #DLJuv15 (Crispin)

Thanks Anja: DL11Juv29. Do we still need a name for DL11Juv14 and the juv in ACP00077ok ?? see: https://talk.chimpandsee.org/#/boards/BCP000000o/discussions/DCP0001us6 , last page 😮

yes, you are right, in ACP00072fj all the chimps are identified. Thanks 😃

Yes, I know that we still need a name. But I already named Crispin and thought you would ask somebody else, no?

I also wanted to ask whether you could look into this new discussion for Dry Lake: https://talk.chimpandsee.org/#/boards/BCP000000o/discussions/DCP00021pi . Thanks!

Yes, I know that you named Crispin, I was just no sure if we still need a name for DL11Juv14. Thanks.

ACP00072dj should be added to the identifiable chimps list at Dry Lake as these are the same individuals (female with infant) as in ACP00072di. That means, it belongs to this entry:
