Chimpanzee and Bonobo conservation in DRC

  • MimiA by MimiA scientist, moderator

One of our former PanAf volunteers, Karsten Dierks, now works with the Lukuru foundation in DRC. The foundation recently posted on the brave work of their teams, literally fighting for ape conservation. http://www.bonoboincongo.com/2015/10/04/villages-and-gunfire-along-the-lomami/

Wow... I think for many people, it would be easy to just say, "it's not worth it" and leave. That Thoms guy sounds like a bad dude, especially in some of the other posts. It's extraordinarily brave of them to risk their lives and commit to staying there, and I hope they are successful. Thanks for letting us know about this project - very interesting!

I have worked with the Lukuru foundation and also met Karsten, he was brave enough to go back to collect camera traps and data after several encounters with Thoms' group. Everyone is safe and as far as I know, the videos on the cameras are super interesting!
