Hasina-Yvette, Linden: Match to GSFem05?
-
by AnLand moderator
@charly03 found this video ACP000d5wt of a bald, gray-backed female with a juvenile offspring close and I am thinking whether it is GSFem05 again. The next video is also already tagged: ACP000d5wu. She has rounded brows and a protruding muzzle. Ears seem undamaged. Lightning is a bit different, but they might be the same.

I agree with you @AnLand, these two ladies look the same to me.
Only the infant 😕 GSInf05 looks a big bigger to me, but we don´t see much of the infant in ACP000d5wt (but the arm looks quite long, like a big infant´s or a young juvenile´s anyway) .
I support this match,
more thoughts?

Sorry, I'm not 100% sure about this match. The new videos don't provide much detail and I can't make up my mind.
I can't tell many details why I'm not sure but I miss the "blond" bunch of hair that GSFem05 has around her neck. Maybe it's just not seen in the new vids?
Also the size of the juvenile seems really odd. GSFem05's offspring seems to be rather independent so I'm wondering why it's beeing carried here.Posted

Thanks @Boleyn for weighing in. It´s a pity that we can´t get to see her right ear well, to see if it so big and points out so much like GSFem05´s.
She gets a temp ID: GSFem05b 😃

ACP000da9q - here is another one that looks similar - wide face, wavy brows, baldness, ears are OK. Big juvenile. The video is quite dark, so it will be hard to make any decision based on that.
Face view of the female.
Face view of the juvenile - light face, only slightly rounded brows, quite bald

Although it's quite a dark video I'm more convinced that this actually is GSFem05. We can see the yellowish hair around her neck and the big right ear is visible towards the end of the clip and in the posted image.
The juvenile has also big sticking out ears. Also the juvenile in the confirmed GSFem05 pic has big ears and quite a bald head. The face seems to be quite dark though. I think we have to consider the very different lighting conditions here and it might actually be the same juvenile.

I agree with you that she could be GSFem05 and her infant (juv). These are the videos where I´m pretty sure that we see GSFem05:
The infant´s size fit, and I think that this new infant is a female like GSInf05 (but this I cannot guarantee).
What do you think @AnLand, do you agree with @Boleyn and with me?

@NuriaM these videos you mentioned in your last posting here ( ACP000dabc, ACP000da7z, ACP000da9q, ACP000da9s, ACP000d9vc, ACP000d9ve) are all from the same day June 10, 2013 and might be a continuous sequence. I am not sure from your posting to what video are you comparing it in your question. I guess to the February 3, 2013 sequence, right? I am discussing this.
These are all videos found from this day (from the sorted google doc and they all seem to be GSFem05 and infant:

I also think that we can rule here GSFem05b out. Looking closer at ACP000d5wt (and watching the other videos from this day), we see that she is not carrying the juvenile. It's the arm of the juvenile, but the little foot of an infant (fully seen in ACP000d5w6). I am pretty sure that this is all the same family and GSFem05 does not have a smaller infant.

Seen again in ACP000d9o5. I'm afraid I did a bit of hacking to find the time stamp for this sequence ( ACP000d9o1 ) and it follows on from ACP000dabc, which has already identified as probably being GSFem05 (by NuriaM, 10 days ago). How cute is this youngster!

Please be aware that the young juvenile seen with GSFem05 is GSInf05 (even it's a quite big infant). GSJuv05 is a bigger male juvenile seen with Gaia (GSFem01) and GSinf01. Differences in body size exclude here any match.
(It's confusing, but at least at the moment there is no connection between them.)

Hi! I got irritated today by the light face coloration of the juvenile in the videos from June 10, 2013, and - I can't really explain and I am probably totally wrong, but could some check please the videos from this day and tell me what you think of the left hand of the juvenile? I can never see any fingers. I am thinking of course about GSJuv07, but this is not really a match proposal. I just think there is something strange when the juvenile walks and hold on to the tree ... And mom comforts the little one a lot ... I don't know. Could somebody check and tell me what you see?

ACP000da7z - I agree with Anja that left hand of this juvenile is not all there. It looks to at least to be missing some fingers. I don't see a proper hand at the end of the left arm.
When walking in the other clips the balance seems off because the left hand is not good for support. As Anja noted, mother seems mindful of the juvenile's issues.
ACP000dabc - Better seen at beginning of this clip. Looks like a curved pale finger?

by Snorticus in response to AnLand's comment.
GSJuv07 - agree that this should be considered as the same chimp as the June 10, 2013 juvenile. The odd shape of the left hand looks similar.
Both chimps also have a dent in the ridge of the left ear. See end of ACP000da9q - and end of ACP000dzoy
ACP000dzow - unusual shape of left hand.

Absolutely! this juvenile has only one finger (thumb?), like GSJuv07. I believe we have a match!
GSInf05 = GSJuv07
In ACP000da1p , in slow motion you can see at the very beginning the difference between his (I´m pretty sure it´s a he) normal right hand and his injured left one.
Thanks so much Anja, good eye!
We are going to need another namer for GSJuv07 😕...Anja, you have found GSJuv07 here and discovered the injury in GSInf05, which has been critical to find this match, what do you think? 😃

by AnLand moderator
I would love to name the juvenile (really, a lot), but could you first check the other dates for our proposed match here. I believe the juveniles in January and February do have a left hand. Could it have been happened later or do we need to reconsider the overall match?
(Sorry, to question everything so late. I just did not see this earlier.)

Yes Anja, you are right, the juveniles in January and February have left hands:
ACP000d60n in January:
and in ACP000d6ep , February, you can see it too at sec. 7.
I still believe that this could be GSJuv07; this is a very distinctive injury, with only one finger left in both cases (GSJuv07, recorded in July and the juvenile in June).
More thoughts?

by Boleyn moderator
Hmm....does this now mean that the couple from January / February are not the same as the one in June OR is this a fresh injury that happened in the time between?
I start to doubt that it is the same couple although the mothers look very much alike. I think there might be some differences though, June's face seems to be more triangular and her hair darker than Jan/Fev female. But then it could just be the different lighting situations. The juvenile really does look different, the bright face is not consistent with the dark face of GSInf05 and the young with the injury seems to be smaller...
Video ACP000d5xz from February
ACP000da4n from June
January/February (Another explanation could be that this juvenile here is not GSJuv05 but another chimp who happens to be here coincidentially.)

The June chimps look a bit different to me on 2nd viewing but I'm still not absolutely sure whether we are looking at 4 chimps or just the same 2.
I would say the Female looks to have whiter side whiskers in the June clips, the Infant's face looks lighter and pinker, & has the left hand issue of course.

Oh, one more thing for the discussion: @NuriaM said above that the juvenile from June is almost certainly a boy. GSInf05 is recorded as female in the prospective list. (I don't disagree with both assessments.) How sure are we of this? This would definitely exclude a match!
